Four Poster Rooms

You probably wouldn't expect to find a room with a four poster bed in a city centre bed and breakfast in Bath, but at Dukes you have a choice of two, each with a beautiful canopied bed and a separate living room.

The decor of the Buccleuch is rather theatrical, making this an ideal retreat for those celebrating a special occasion. The room is located on the 1st floor at the back of the property overlooking Edward Street home of ‘The Duchy,’ a Georgian town house once owned by HRH Prince Charles.

The Athol is also on the 1st floor, overlooking Great Pulteney Street.  The largest of all the bedrooms at Dukes, this is the grandest and most iconic. With 300 square feet of space, high ceilings and two separate rooms, this suite is light, airy, spacious and very luxurious.

Deluxe Doubles

All four deluxe doubles at Dukes come with a king size or super king size bed. The Beaufort is well located on the 1st floor with views of Great Pulteney Street and up to the Holburne Museum. With the extra sitting area this room is suitable for a couple or, with the addition of two single beds, a family of four.

The Somerset is a very attractive, extra large room with more modern décor and a large living area. Situated on the 3rd floor beneath the mansard it has a charming ‘Mary Poppins’ roof top and chimney views up Great Pulteney Street to the Holburne Museum, giving you skyline views across Bath.

The Norfolk is located on the ground floor, first on the right as you enter the guest house, making it ideal for a young family or for those who are less mobile.

The Wellington is one of the most attractive of the four deluxe doubles. The room is located on the 2nd floor and is more suited to a couple than a family. The generously proportioned draped sashed windows offer spectacular views of Great Pulteney Street.

Superior Doubles

The Roxburghe and the Leinster are two of six superior double rooms, situated at opposite ends of the corridor on the 3rd floor. They share a romantic, artisan, attic feel about them. They are at the very top of the property and their walls lean in rather attractively. These are lovely, quiet rooms, set away from it all, with views over the Somerset Hills and playing fields.

The Devonshire, Rutland and Argyll are popular, lovely rooms of a good size and price with beds often made up as twins. The Devonshire and Rutland are located on the 2nd floor while the Argyll is on the 1st floor.  The Montrose is a spacious, light and attractive room on the 2nd floor offering good views of Great Pulteney Street. Being such a unique piece of Georgian design and architecture, pretty much unmatched anywhere in the world, this really is a room with a view.

Standard Doubles

The Abercorn with its king size bed and walk-in shower is in a great position for those needing easy access. The room is decorated in fresh, light tones of yellow and, being south facing is regularly bathed in warm sunlight. The Abercorn is located on the hallway used to access the stairs. Light sleepers may occasionally be disturbed by the night time closing of the ‘fire doors’. Most guests will rest peacefully undisturbed!

Both the Marlborough and Grafton are very practical and functional rooms on the 2nd floor, popular with academics from Bath University and business travellers. The Marlborough is the largest of the standard double rooms with a king size bed and corner shower. This room has a distinctive shape, being in the front bow of the property. The Grafton is very light being south facing and enjoys the benefit of no ‘street noise’. Offered with a king size bed and compact corner shower in the bathroom, this room delivers ‘away from it all’ seclusion after a hectic day of sightseeing and evening activity.

The smallest rooms in the Standard Double range are the Richmond and the Bedford on the 3rd floor. Both with king size beds and compact corner showers, they continue to retain their popularity with   business and tourist travellers. These rooms, being in the eaves of the property, have restricted views of Bath but do showcase the architectural roof tops and chimneys of the city. Both rooms are modern in décor and offer a fresh and more modern ‘take’ on Georgian living. With a superb breakfast, comfortable bed and city centre location, these rooms offer great comfort and value.
